Leader In Me

What is Leader in me?

Leader in Me is an evidence-based, comprehensive operating system that builds leadership and life skills in students, creates a high-trust school culture, and lays the foundation for sustained academic achievement, while intrinsically motivating adults and students.

Leader In Me

Shaffer Proud

Shaffer is proud to be the first Lighthouse school in the Jefferson County school district.  We have been a Leader in Me School since 2015 and a Lighthouse School since 2019.

Within the education industry, it is common for schools to receive recognition for outstanding achievement. The Lighthouse Certification is a highly-regarded standard set by FranklinCovey that is attainable by every Leader in Me school. As it is a significant benchmark, applying for this certification typically occurs four to five years after a school begins the Leader in Me process.

The certification is evidence that schools have produced outstanding results in school and student outcomes, by implementing the process with fidelity and excellence. It is also because of the extraordinary impact that the schools may be having on staff, students, parents, and the greater community.

Leader in Me schools maintain their Lighthouse Certification for two years and continue to foster their growth in exemplifying a leadership culture. At the end of the two years, schools may recertify to maintain their Lighthouse Certification.  We were most recently recertified in April of 2023.

Classroom

During the first 20 minutes of each school day, all students are engaging in a series of activities designed to foster the value of the Leader in Me.  Students are encouraged to learn about and teach the 7 Habits, set goals for both personal and academic success as well as strive to find their genius and become a leader.

Student Leadership Roles

Leadership Roles are a big part of the student experience at Shaffer Elementary. We encourage students each day to find their genius and discover their leadership potential.

Help promote our school leadership by supporting your student's desire to become a leader at home and at school. We will have opportunities for students to sign-up throughout the year. Use this website as a tool to look through the different leadership opportunities and upload videos for those roles that require an online submission.
